Feeding The Troops
During and after the financial crisis of 2008, the Emaus group who were the caretakers of the homes at the time were in huge difficulty to provide all the needs of the children in the homes. This got worse as the years progressed to the point that food was not getting through to the homes. Make A Smile decided to take action and starting with just one home where the fridge was empty and ended up by providing food for the whole group.
During this time Make A Smile set up the Self Sufficiency Project in Relleu to provide vegetables, fruit, eggs and olive oil and the rest was bought with the support of Makro Supermarkets and funded by the community via events, veg and egg sales, coffee mornings and much more (see ‘Events’).
